Congratulations to all sailors taking part in the ILCA U21 World Championships.
We are proud here at MYC with having Jack Eickmeyer and Lachie Weber representing us. With Jack finishing 28th and Lachie finishing 29th puts them in the top 1/4 of the world! Well done to Tom for battling sickness and a leaky boat! Stellar effort boys we’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved Comanche at speed.
The boat is very sophisticated with hydraulic controls for all of the sheets, the canting keel and the water ballast. It was an amazing experience and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the outing with all of our sailors getting the chance to steer the boat for a part of the race. Last week it was Mark Nicholson and Josh Thring who sailed in 20 knots of breeze with the boat reaching 27.4 knots; this week it was Stuart and James Gooley and Ray Harvey and Daryl Simmons who sailed in a 15 knot breeze reaching 22 knots. Not a boat to take out for a leisurely sail; to perform well it needs to be sailed on a significant heel of up to 40 degrees and whilst the professionals ran around the boat like monkeys the visitors struggled to move from side to side providing ballast on the rails. Stuart Gooley and Ray Harvey steering the boat. Before the start showing the beam of the boat and general cockpit layout.
Thanks to the Winning Group and James Gooley for getting four slots on the boat and to Graeme Taylor, who is a watch captain and helmsman pn Comanche , for arranging the final two places. The Foundation has started to plan for next years Foundation Lunch and hopefully we can organise a similar opportunity . The Sailing Instructions for the MYC 2023/24 sailing season have now been released. The Sailing Instructions are available for viewing and download via the Club Racing Season Headquarters page The HQ page can also be found by clicking 'Club Racing' from the the 'Sailing' menu on our website. Note: This V1.00 document is the initial release of the Sailing Instructions and competitors are advised to regularly check the Official Notice Boards (ONB) for any Notices or Amendments. The ONBs are accessible from the Club Racing Season HQ page Our Club Racing Season HQ page has been created as a 'one stop shop' for all things racing at MYC this season. Why not bookmark it in your browser for quick access.... You may have heard the Foundation has recently committed to contribute $16,000 to the Club to assist in the purchase of a new tractor and another $16,000 towards a new crane.
The Foundation Board would love to see wider member participation in supporting the Foundation, enabling it to continue and extend its financial contribution to projects such as these. Donations don’t have to be large; if every member donated $50 total contributions would be close to $45,000 which could then be used to continue the work in upgrading our facilities. Donations to the Mornington Yacht Foundation can be made through our account at the Australian Sports Foundation site by clicking on the following link Once you have made your donation you will receive a receipt to enable a tax deduction to be claimed. By making donations in this way you are effectively having the Government contribute to our sport to the extent of the tax deduction you obtain. However if you wish to make a donation without receiving a tax deduction these can be made directly to the Foundation through the Club office. On another matter the Foundation Board is in the early planning stages for our Business lunch in 2024 which we expect to be as great an event as last year’s. Keep the date Friday 15 March free and wait for further news. Here's a quick tutorial that will explain how crew can easily join your boat's crew list and how to create and manage your boat's crew list. Why? It is all about SAFETY
