- Over the last two Wednesdays those individuals who purchased the Andoo sailing experience at the Foundation lunch earlier in the year travelled to Sydney and sailed on the boat in a Wednesday afternoon race on the harbour.
The boat is very sophisticated with hydraulic controls for all of the sheets, the canting keel and the water ballast. It was an amazing experience and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the outing with all of our sailors getting the chance to steer the boat for a part of the race. Last week it was Mark Nicholson and Josh Thring who sailed in 20 knots of breeze with the boat reaching 27.4 knots; this week it was Stuart and James Gooley and Ray Harvey and Daryl Simmons who sailed in a 15 knot breeze reaching 22 knots.
Not a boat to take out for a leisurely sail; to perform well it needs to be sailed on a significant heel of up to 40 degrees and whilst the professionals ran around the boat like monkeys the visitors struggled to move from side to side providing ballast on the rails.
Thanks to the Winning Group and James Gooley for getting four slots on the boat and to Graeme Taylor, who is a watch captain and helmsman pn Comanche , for arranging the final two places.
The Foundation has started to plan for next years Foundation Lunch and hopefully we can organise a similar opportunity .
