"Project Storm"
We are pleased to announce an update on Project Storm. The first section of mesh has been installed.  We'd like to thank John Storm, John Underwood, Tim O'Grady & Graeme Vertigan for their valuable assistance Saturday morning in trying conditions (...Tim got wet!)

Keil in Germany holds one of the largest sailing Regattas in the World  attracting 400,000 visitors, 2,000 boats from 60 Nations and 4,500 participants.  The regatta covers all of the major off the beach classes with the best sailors in the World competing including World and Olympic champions. The below photo showing coaching rhibs will give you some idea of the size of the Regatta.

This tear we had two crews competing at Keil Lily and Matilda Richardson sailing in the 49erFX class and Sophie Jackson and Angus Higgins sailing in the 470 mixed fleet.

We have not had a full report from our members yet, but the Regatta was plagued with light winds. Racing was abandoned on the first day so there was only one day of racing before the fleet split into gold, silver, and bronze flights for two days of racing.  This meant extremely long days on the water as the organisers tried to catch up on lost races.

On the final day there were many delays and the 49erFX bronze fleet only got in one race but unfortunately the Richardson’s had an on water start and were disqualified. Competing in their first International event for the year they finished 51st out of 64 boats however they had a win in one of the silver fleet races.

They are now off to Aarhuf in Denmark for the European Championships then to Trevamunde in Germany to meet up with Jack Eickmeyer and James Jackson for the National Sailing League series representing MYC.  Following this event they will head to Lake Como in Italy for the Junior Worlds.

Sophie Jackson and Angus Higgins in the 470 Mixed Fleet came 30th out of 37 boats at Keil with a best placing of 22 in Heat 2.  Again very long days on the water with on at least one day after launching at 9.30 am and finishing the second race for the day around 7pm.   Sophie explained that the racing was tough in large experienced fleets but that sailing at the venue of the 1976 Olympic Sailing venue, which has stood the test of time, was very humbling.

They are now off to Spain some 2,950km south of Keil for the Junior Worlds then back to Holland for more training and another Regatta.

When we receive a full report on their trip we will provide it to you but in the meantime the above is an update on their trips to date.  They are gathering great experience in Europe which will further their sailing careers.
