Click here for ASBA VICS NOR final 2016 Sail Sandy is back – bigger than ever and entries for the 2016 regatta are now open!
Competitors planning to be a part of the 2016 Sail Sandy regatta are encouraged to enter online via www.syc.com.au by October 5 to take advantage of the early entry discount. Online entry and the Notice of Race are now available for the annual event and this year will take place from October 15 to 16. Held annually at Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC), the Sail Sandy regatta has become a tradition seeing competitors from around Victoria and the occasional interstater attend. People flock to this regatta as it accommodates all Off the Beach Monohull and Catamaran classes. Knowing this, associations tend to rally as many class members as possible to take advantage of the high quality racing in the family friendly and competitive environment. Kate Goss, Victorian International Optimist Dinghy Association (VIODA) president and mother of two Opti sailors, is an active member of Sandringham Yacht Club and loves the camaraderie the event provides, “Sail Sandy is a large regatta that comes together each year. It taps into members who have been around for years and is also the starting point for newer families to get involved and have their first taste of a regatta. It’s a great exercise in Club bonding as we’re able to see the depth of knowledge and passion here at our Club.” To complement its world class facilities, SYC is very proud of what Sail Sandy has become – a high quality, annual signature event on the sailing calendar. Principal Race Officer (PRO) and 2016 Yachting Victoria’s Race Official of the Year winner, Stephen Aulich, has been the PRO for ten years now and is edified among sailors and colleagues as one of the most esteemed Race Officials in Australia. Aulich returns for his eleventh year so the sailors know they are getting local knowledge along with a decade of consistency which makes this regatta second to none in the race management department. Last year this event attracted the largest number of competitors the regatta has seen with more than 215 boats across 19 classes attend. This year event organisers believe with the race management team and the interest from families and competitors of all ages they will smash last year’s attendance. Sail Sandy is open to competitors of all ages and commonly sees members of the same family sailing on the water together, like the Case family. Last year the regatta saw four members of the family competing with Dad, Brian Case, in the RS Aero and three Case children tackling an Opti, 29er and Aero dinghy. Brian and his family enjoyed every minute of the regatta, “Since the event offers racing for so many different classes and is run by such a good race management team, Sail Sandy is the perfect regatta for the whole family to be involved. Last year I competed and had my daughter give me a run for my money!” This event is also the second of eight regattas that make up the Victorian Sailing Cup series. Junior and youth sailors who compete at this event will have the opportunity to earn points based on their results at the end of the regatta. The results from each event are then collected at the end of the season and the winners of each class will be announced at the Australian Sailing Victoria awards. For more information on the Victorian Sailing Cup Series click here. Registrations for Sail Sandy close on Saturday 15 October at 1100. Visit https://syc.com.au/sail-sandy-2016/ to take advantage of the early discount offer and the discounts available for SYC junior members. For more information on Sandringham Yacht Club please visit www.syc.com.au. The Notice of Race and Online Entries for the 2016 Club Marine Series (Blue and White Series) are now available via the five host Clubs and the Club Marine Series website, www.clubmarineseries.com.au. Following the success of last year’s event, event organisers are continuing with the central location of information for this annual regatta allowing for ease of information and registration which can all be found via the Club Marine Series website. The five host clubs: Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, Hobsons Bay Yacht Club, Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, Royal Brighton Yacht Club and Sandringham Yacht Club along with Australian Sailing are the backbone of this series. Each race day they supply the assets, volunteers and Race Officials that allow the event to take place. The first race of the 2016 Club Marine Series, kicks off on Saturday the 8th October and is hosted by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. Paralleling the White Series, event organisers are aiming to surpass last year’s high entry numbers for the Club Marine Blue Series competitors. The Blue Series engages sailors who want to race in a relaxed atmosphere and still compete in the Club Marine Series. It supports ‘Around the Sticks’ racing and aims to provide a cruising environment on the water. Registration for the Blue Series is available here or via the Club Marine Series website. Pet Days are really really fun. There were so many beautiful breeds of cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits and a stick insect. As honorary members for the day the Pets seemed to really enjoy the premises and their new friends. The Scottish Terrier likes rabbits, The English settler, Kelpie /Alsation sisters / Chihuahua loved being on the sea and the ginger cat was sponsored by Ronstan. The pets went shopping and bought some fabulous outfits as you can see in the pics. It was half price day and why would they not take the opportunity to grab the bargains.
Di Lynch and her team were amazing to make this day such a great event and some even got in the spirit and wore pet ears. Thank you also to Mt Martha Veterinary Clinic, Sport Phillip Marine, The Pet Barn, Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, GA Homes, Peninsula Cat Refuge and many many more that volunteered time, service and goodies.
