On what appeared to have the potential to be a wet evening, ended up being a very enjoyable night on the water. For many boats this was the first hit out of the new season, although a smaller than usual flotilla (17 boats) had taken to the water, the competition was still fierce. It might have been the winter cob webs that led to Pete Sydes passing the line early, no bottle of wine tonight for you! It was a slow start, the flotilla was spread out by the first mark, but with winds building the fleet begun to bunch up, making for a fun last dash to the line. In the end the night was won by Gavin (Allure), in second Trevor/Graeme (Jessie) and Simon Lynch (April). Michael White Our Opening Day was held on Sunday, a great day as usual with lots of people attending & lots of fun! Cr Rose Clark officially opened our 72nd sailing season and Rev John Sharpe blessed our fleets. Our National Anthem was sung beautifully by Alex Ferguson, we had the Mornington Secondary College CFA drum corp and it wouldn't have been the same without the sounds of the pipes floating in from the jetty by Lloyd Page! Since snapping my Achilles tendon 9 weeks ago, I’ve been unable to work on our yacht Sundara, but with much appreciated help from Justin Squire and Bill Bennett, we were ready for crane day. Annie and I would also like to say a big thanks to Justin and Bill, along with Tim O’Grady, Laurie & Mike White, Lazy and all the other MYC members that made the launch possible.
