We boarded the tall ship Tenacious in Hobart early afternoon on Tuesday the 14th. We walked aboard to the welcome of the 1st mate and her crew.
Other Duties- 4 of us up the port stairwell, everyone else to the lower mess. At the sound of the siren, we pulled 3 people in wheelchairs up our stairwell using a pulley system. 2 stairwells were set up for this manoever. Everyone else made their way up another stairwell to the main mast, where we were handed life jackets to put on.
Everyone did at least 1 mess duty during our voyage. Those about to go on watch, people on mess duty (a person from each watch group) ate early in the upper mess. The rest of the voyage crew were served in the lower mess. A dumb waiter to delivered food from the galley.

We sailed round Dennes Point, The Northern tip of Bruny Island. As we sailed down the D'Enrecasteaux Channel, the wind dropped, we slowed down to 2 knots before the Captain was convinced to start the motor.
While motoring south, we were all actively involved in happy hour - cleaning! Every person was given a task according to their abilities. Krista was the handrail cleaner, others cleaned showers and toilets, emptied bins, swept the stairs and lifts. 2 watch groups worked below decks, the other 2 above, swabbing the decks etc.

Sunday Morning - Another Happy Hour, we packed, stripped our beds, cleaned lifts etc. Those on mess duty cleaned the galley, prepared salad wraps for lunch in preparation for docking in Hobart at 1pm.
Farewell to the wonderful crew of TS Tenacious.
All the best to all the wonderful voyage crew on Voyage YNS480.
A BIG Thank you to Brighton Yacht Club who kindly sponsored the trip for Krista Bailey.
A BIG Thank you to Mornington Sailability without whom this trip would not have happened for me.
Congratulations to the Jubilee Sailing Trust, who built Tenacious, a square rigging ship that can be crewed by able-bodied and physically disabled people together.
