Keelboat sailing and stand-up paddle-boarding on offer in 2020-21.
The aim of GOS is to provide a program accessible to woman encapsulating all areas of our sport and leading to overall participation and involvement at MYC. The keelboat program consists of 4 sessions that progress our participants through the steps to becoming involved in a great sport and terrific club.
Course 1: Thursday November 11, 18, 25, Dec 2 (2021)
Course 2: Thursday February 2, 9, 16, 23 (2022)
Time: 5pm for 5:15pm start. Approx. 7.30pm finish.
Places available per course: 6
5:15pm - 15 minute theory session
5.30pm - 7.30pm - Groups of 2-3 will be allocated to a mentor for the night and participate in the MYC Thursday Twilight Race. Your mentor will teach you different aspects of sailing or jobs on the boat each night.
7.30pm onwards - Participants are encouraged to socialize afterwards. Thursday nights are a usually a hive of activity at MYC, with the Rocks restaurant providing a set menu through the MYC bar. A table in our main club room will be reserved for our GOS group and participants will be provided with a free drink voucher!
Syllabus / what's involved:
- Intro to MYC
- Parts of the boat; main ropes.
- Crew roles; inc. rigging up.
- Points of sail and sail trim.
- Rules; port & starboard.
- Opportunities at MYC
GOS Stand Up Paddle-boarding (SUP)
We encourage members and friends to try something new and get active on the water through stand-up paddle boarding. One of our female Australian Sailing qualified instructors with a SUP endorsement will be running the session. All abilities are welcome!
