A major event for MYC is its Schnapper Point Regatta held in February each year. This event caters for visitors with all classes of boats as well as providing interesting displays and activities for visitors onshore.
MYC hosts many Championship events and was host to the 1999 World Sailing Championship for Europe Class dinghies in which over 150 competitors from 17 countries participated. We have also hosted several Sail Melbourne Trailerable events including 2003 and 2004 and also proudly ran the 420 World Championships in January 2004.
March 2011 saw the successful running of the Optimist Open and Green fleet State Championships, and at the same time, the running of the International Moth foiler class and Musto skiff State Championships. These three regattas were all highly successful, with feedback on the Optimist States as being 'one of the best Championships that has ever been run in Australia'
2014 was no exception to our regatta hosting resumé. We proudly hosted the 2014 AIODA International Optimist Australian and Open Championships with nearly 350 boats - making it the biggest single class regatta ever held in the Southern Hemisphere! The event was an outstanding success and has received accolades from many people from around the world.
These large scale events are all managed by the Club Committees both on and off the water and countless, tireless volunteers - the bulk of whom are all Club members. The Club has great rapport with other Clubs and this allows the combining of resources - such as that needed for the Optimist titles where we had around 90 rescue and support vessels alone for the kids!
