Great to see you on the water last Friday! I have attached some photos of the day - click here This is largely intended for all those who have completed Tackers 3 and would like a bit more practice or guidance in a fun environment before starting green fleet racing. As you have probably figured out by now, having Ella and Alex on the water during Friday Fun is of great benefit to the new juniors. History - It was originally setup that those being looked after by the instructors prepaid for six sessions ($120). Payment was made directly with the club office and an online registration form was completed. It essentially covered the cost of the boats and instructors, and, addressed safety matters. Not all were aware of this and confusion reigned. Moving Forward - To remove the confusion of what Friday Fun is for the more experienced youth (which is possibly described as unsupervised sailing) as opposed to this group who would prefer having an instructor, for the reasons mentioned, we are introducing Ella's Fun Coaching during Friday Fun @ $20 a session. If you have already paid for a six session block don't panic, the unused amount will go towards Ella's Fun Coaching. Our plan is to make sure an Instructor (Ella and/or other Instructors) are always present and providing activities that are fun and build confidence. Sessions will continue on bad weather days with theory based coaching. The MYC website will soon be updated and you will see Ella's Fun Coaching as a dedicated area where you can get more information, register and pay. Most important is we have fun, this is a great chance for our kids to build new relationships that we hope last a lifetime because of their respect for each other and the love of sailing. To that, we will be encouraging the parents to get involved. Some have suggested having a BBQ at the end of each session. If you have any thoughts or feedback please feel free to speak up. A Final Word - As you may appreciate much of the effort that goes into these initiatives are by volunteers. We don't always get it right but at the core is a best intention. I hope to be getting another email out this week with some more detail but please feel free to call me for more information. If there are others that you know and who you think would like to be included please advise me...we will add them to the list. Can you recognise the symptoms of Stroke? Last week one of our boats while racing incurred a stroke situation with one of its crew. One in six persons will have a stroke in their lifetime. Stroke impacts all Australians; yachties are not exempt; the average age of our Club members exceeds 65 so they are at a higher risk level. Look out for the symptoms of STROKE and act FAST. Two groups went out for a sail on Arabelle last Thursday and participants included Megan Sinclair and Maria Napolitano. (photos attached). Along with the sailing a lot of life stories were shared and enjoyed. It is always great to have Paul Dynes help out. Paul, as always, made the day fun for all. The GOSS group was an idea formed while talking to some kindergarten mums. Many had varying levels of sailing experience and spoke of how much they enjoyed sailing, being on-water and certainly the social aspect. All mentioned how they missed being able to get out on the water as becoming mums had certainly restricted their time with the day to day running of families and workplaces taking priority.
GOSS was developed to provide an opportunity for women to get back out on the water, and many women just wanted to give it a try. The opportunity to enable women to come and have their little ones watched over while they take a little time out, to create new friendships, get back onto the water or start a new journey, or just come to a wonderful venue with a great group of like-minded women and enjoy great coffee and of course goss. Come & join in our Christmas Celebrations after sailing on Thursday the 21st of December @ 7pm With live music by the RONSTAN Band & if you are good Santa will make an appearance! MORNINGTON YACHT CLUB APPLIES FOR LEVEL THREE MONITORING IN GOOD SPORTS PROGRAM Date: 7/12/2017 The Mornington Yacht Club is displaying commitment to responsible alcohol management with an application for Level Three Monitoring under the Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program. Good Sports is the first nationwide alcohol management program of its kind and is supported by VicHealth, the Traffic Accident Commission (TAC), the Department of Health and Department of Health & Ageing. The program was developed following research conducted by the Australian Drug Foundation which indicated that by introducing responsible alcohol management policies, clubs were able to improve membership and enhance viability. The club is determined to meet the criteria required for the Level Three monitoring. We have a written alcohol management policy which includes the sale of low alcohol drinks and soft drinks and a safe transport strategy to ensure our members get home safely. We will provide food when serving alcohol and we will not have an emphasis on alcohol for player awards or fundraising, functions and prizes. We are confident our efforts will continue to improve the environment at the Club. We are working to ensure the Mornington Yacht Club is a great place to play and socialise for all members of our community. The club will be regularly monitored to ensure we comply with the program. This is the responsibility of all members to make sure we do the right thing while we’re enjoying ourselves and having fun. For more information about the accreditation program contact the committee. Christmas Specials 2017 We are pleased to release the Karcher Professional Christmas Specials 2017. Please see below document. Please note, the Specials are valid 11/12/2017 - 31/12/2017 only.
