Navionics & Fundamentals of Navigation, 2 courses. Navigation has changed a lot in the past few years. You no longer need specialised skills. While tacticians have significance, the capacity for all crew members to navigate proficiently has become more attainable than ever before by software on their smartphones and GPS devices. This shift holds immense potential in bolstering safety on board, as every crew member can actively participate or should know how to navigate, thereby reducing the hazards associated with erroneous navigation.
There are 2 navigation online courses on offer:
Weather for Sailors – starts Tuesday 25th July.
Robin Hewitt will once again be sharing his detailed knowledge on Weather for Sailors with module 1, the Fundamentals. Over 3 nights via an online platform. Learn more here https://www.orcv.org.au/training/weather-courses
Bowman Essentials – Sunday 13th August
Join Pete Dowdney as he shares his detailed knowledge and years of experience of being a Bowman both here and internationally. Complete the eLearning module and join the in-person day at SYC. Bookings essential here https://www.orcv.org.au/training/bowman-essentials
It is with great sadness to let our membership know that Chris Donnellan passed away a few days ago at the young age of 39. Chris and his family joined Mornington Yacht Club in 1993 where he sailed Sabot's from a young age with siblings Tim, Steve & Lauren.
Parents Tony & Bev along with the siblings spent many hours traveling Australia where Chris participated in State and National Sabot Championships. He then went on to sail in the 420 fleet with Jono Neate including the National Championships in Brisbane.
Chris then moved on from sailing as he took on a career as a very successful chef in Melbourne & then Vietnam.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Tony, Bev and family at this very sad time xxx
There will be a celebration of Chris's life to be announced at a later date.

Dress Up - OPTIONAL....but what a great excuse to venture out in your Uggs! :)
Half game show. Half party. That's how we describe it. One Bingo caller calls out the numbers and his budding DJ play songs from the 80’s and 90’s that rhyme with those numbers.
Throw in some jokes, tributes and spontaneous air guitar competition and you’ll soon see why this night of Bogan Bingo at our favourite local Mornington Yacht Club will be a hoot.
Drinks & nibbles available at the bar.
Tickets exclude food & beverage. No BYO.
MYC member ID required for all discounted member ticket purchases and will be requested upon entry.
Please present ticket purchase upon entry.
Seating requests will be allocated on a first booked basis, and otherwise cannot be promised.

Doors will open from 7pm. Bingo starts 8pm.
VALE | Nan Rodd
Nan Rodd passed away a couple of days ago at the age of 96. She was a long time life member and the wife of late Max Rodd. Her contribution to the MYC associates as they were known in the early days of the club was huge. Social events were highlights in the Summer months as the many members from Melbourne flocked to the beaches and the holiday environment of the yacht club. Husband Max was a former office holder and board member of the club who was on the building sub committee that planned and built the new clubhouse on the reclaim. He is also remembered for his longstanding involvement with the training of our Juniors and has the school named after him.
There will be a celebration of Nan's life to be announced at a later date.
