Bon Voyage Tanya Lawton RO, you have been ACE this year!. We have some great club photos of the day taken by Sonia Dowdle - click here for the full gallery After a huge year of sailing at MYC and other clubs the OTB and Opti sailors decided to postpone the Club Champs to another weekend with some breeze (as there was none on Sunday!) and have a little excursion down the bay to visit some of the Bays Islands.
4 RIBS took everyone and the first stop was Mud Island to explore the inland lake and mud, then to the South Chanel Fort to check out the old Gun turrets and tunnels still in the island and then moving onto Queenscliff for lunch and Fish and Chips. On the way back we took a little spin out into Bass Straight with near perfectly flat heads. Next stop onto Sorrento Sailing Club along the pristine beaches of OCS camp, Portsea and Sorrento channel for an afternoon refreshment. Leaving Sorrento the kid’s knee boarded in the perfectly glassy water all the way back to Mornington - A really fun day was had for all and a BIG thanks to the private RIBS, Bret and Kelly James, GT, Greg Scherwinski and Dave Eickmeyer. For the next ladies lunch our guest speaker will be Liz Jones from "Totally Toned" in Mornington. Don't like intense physical fitness? Have not exercised for some time? Have arthritis? Previous injuries? Back problems? The motorised beds allow you to tone and strengthen your muscles in a relaxed and low pressure environment. Come along to hear Liz speak and collect a voucher for a FREE no obligation 1 hour trial "We boarded the tall ship Tenacious in Hobart early afternoon on Tuesday the 14th. We walked aboard to the welcome of the 1st mate and her crew......." A stormy start to the day did not stop 21 boats who knew the weather would be a perfect South easterly by 6pm. Racing was all going well for all until we got the call from Foamfast advised that they had lost their rudder. Racer X went to the rescue but a freak wave injured willing crew mate John Guest
who finished up at Frankston Hospital for 12 hours with a dislocated kneecap, dislocated shin Joint, ruined raybans and severe bruising. Kon Cili won Race 6 on Friday Harbour Winning the Series and only one race to go are: 1st. Cocktail - Rob rainsford 35pts 2nd. Phoenix - Phoenix Syndicate 40pts 3rd Jesse - Graeme Pimlott. 40pts The Commodore asked to thank all the sailors on Saturday who offered their help to the on water race crew; John Mills, Tanya Lawton, Max Lynch and Rod Austin. She had some great feedback from our Saturday sailors saying that the atmosphere was fantastic! The first race began as a Northerly 340 degrees and by the third race was a Southerly at 210 degrees.
Also who must be thanked is the crew that started the Queenscliff race at 10am and the final boat finished after 7.30pm. The natural elements of a flood tide and no wind in the end beat most competitors in the Queenscliff Race except for three and another retired due to a lack of quartermaster rations and whilst the tide, no wind must have been frustrating the Flake orders on the radio sounded worth the effort of travelling to Queenscliff. It was the AUDI Mornington FF and Etchells Club Championship Series on the weekend and currently leading the series after 18 races are FF's - #3857 Under The Pump , Joe Etherson Etchells - #1011 Quantum Leap, Chris Jackson. In the Queensland Destination Race Div.1 1st Javelin- Mark Nicholson Div. 2 no finishers Div.3 1st Mixed Nuts - Tim O Grady, 2nd Messin About Paul Copeland. Just a couple of reminders to members:
