We have two regattas coming up - Schnapper Point Regatta (11th & 12th February) and we are hosting the Victorian Optimist State Championships (11-13th March). These regattas require a team effort, and we always appreciate your help.

Please indicate your availability and the roles you are able to do. Please read the requirements and job descriptions for each role. You may indicate more than one role, and we will allocate you accordingly. 

NOTE: if you do not have kids participating in these regattas and you are volunteering, you are required to get a Working with Children Check. Click here to see if you can apply online. Only takes 15 mins, and is free if you are a volunteer!

On Sunday, MYC was bustling with blue and yellow as we hosted 20 displaced Ukrainian kids and 16 Australian-Ukrainian scouts. Armed with blue and yellow zinc, our sailors and guests hit the water. The kids swapped between sailing pacers with our youth sailors, and sailing on Shining Sea and Blackjack. Lots of smiles on a windy day as all boats travelled down to Mills Beach and back. Thankfully only two capsizes! A BBQ finished off the day. 

If you watch 7news or ABC News you may have seen our segment on Sunday night! It was great to have camera crews down from both stations capturing this event, and to show our support for the people of Ukraine. 

A big thanks to Christina Kmetj and Andrew Weber for organising, as well as the many volunteers who helped out - youth and adults alike. It was fantastic to see the club come together to show support and solidarity.

Mel regularly sailed at MYC in her Opti years . Dave started the Pacific Rim which MYC Hosted with John Hart, Scott White and Trevor Neate were part of along with Dave as Vioda President. Dave dropped down to help our juniors and volunteers and check on Mel as she followed his lead and become a leader in promoting our sport and guiding our juniors, some of which would not be sailing if not for Mel. That passion is something that Dave has left to Mel and many others. Gone too soon , but we hope keep an eye on us all. Our support and thoughts are With Mel at this time.

OTB regatta season is in full swing.

James Jackson and Harrison Chapman won the 420 Nationals at Metung. Olivia Cameron & Lily Fogarty (MYC/DBYC/FYC) were 2nd girls. And well done to Will White & Declan Ryan , Lucy Laverty & Milli Grover at their first Nationals. Fantastic experience.

Up on Botany Bay in the Lasers the Nationals & Oceanics finished on Sunday. There were multiple Olympians including medallists in both Standard and Radial fleets. Jack Eickmeyer, Lachie Weber, Daniel Laverty and Tom Holmes (RBYC/MYC) mixed with some amazing sailors and did so well. Before the lighter last day, Jack was second U21 in the big rig, and Lachie 2nd Australian (or first "non-Olympian"). And Maddy English who won the Victorian “scholarship” for new girls to the class did well, battling 20+ knots most of the week.

Sail Melbourne starts this Saturday with all the Internationals again

It is with much sadness that we announce the recent sudden passing of long term member and friend Alan Clark.  AKA 'Optus Al'.
Al was a member of the Mornington Yacht Club for 22 years and was an avid worker in the yard supporting all members, particularly our Keelboat owners. He was always there to help out whether during regatta's or with jobs in the yard and will be greatly missed at MYC.

Our sympathies go to Jean and Al's loved ones at this very sad time.  We will forever think of Al and his Agapanthus garden beside the winch house xxx

A Celebration of Life for Alan is to be held at the Mornington Yacht Club on Friday the 13th of January 2023 at 5.00pm.  The service will be held privately earlier on.
