It was 7/11 day and many skippers I suspect stopped for their free medium slurpee energy boost at 7/11 before a day of sailing in a consistent 200 degree Southerly of 18-20 knts. The Great Southern course was set north (well north) of the Mussel farm at windward and leeward distances of 1.5 nm and 1.2 nm. It was great to see Retriever back in the water with two new Mercury engines, battery configuration and hydraulic steering thanks to Wes Frost Marine. Retriever is now the best it has ever been!. 4 x Div 1 Boats, 8 x Div 2 boats and 7 x Div 3 boats arrived at the start line to compete and a separate start was set for each division. Racing was initially postponed from 11am to 2pm and then another 10 minutes as a stray No.3 leeward buoy drifted onto the start line. Lazy and Brendan on Sara had a really busy day (Lazy and Busyin the one sentence is a bit ironic) with re-positioning the No. 3 mark on 2 occasions and rescuing a Feva inshore. They did a great job. The volunteers on the water John (RO), Julia , Tania, Lazy and Brendan plus the on shore team of Brodie the best radio broadcaster I have ever heard, Steve and his team of course made the day great for everyone.
The number 3 mark had a hectic day when a Div 1 boat that must have been getting dizzy with so many laps hit and dragged the mark back to the finish line. The dolphins were the fastest leading all the boats and there were some boats being led faster than others out there and congratulate the Line Honour winners finishing around the 2 hours - 2 hours 30 min mark were Div.1 Anna , Div, 2 Arabelle and Div. 3 The Darskide. The more important results were as follows:
