The ‘YT2’ and ‘Tonic’ crews held a get together to welcome Jeff and Liz Palk who have returned to Australia from the UK on a short visit. Members will remember Jeff who was a valuable member of the YT2 crew for a number of years.
On their retirement Liz and Jeff planned to split their time between Australia and the UK. Whilst in the UK in January 2022 Jeff unfortunately contracted meningococcal and then sepsis a potentially life threatening condition. Over the last 18 months Jeff has bravely fought the disease and has retained his spirit and sense of humor with the unwavering support of Liz. Jeff now a double amputee and with the loss of the tips of his fingers has made a remarkable recovery.
As can be seen from the picture above Jeff, standing between Stuart Gooley and Andrew Young, can still enjoy a beer. He said "the surgeon was able to save enough of my fingers so that I can still hold a stubby!"
It was great to see Jeff and Liz again, and we wish them all the best for the future. We look forward to catching up with them again when visiting the UK.
