Time to hook up the caravan and start heading to Gregory Downs our neighbour’s had left earlier heading to the same destination. As I was packing up the car I heard a loud crack then a thump next Pam came running out of the van asking if I was OK, I looked around and a large branch had broken off a tree near us, had our neighbour still had been there it would have flattened his car and possibly injured or killed him. Fortunately for me there was only a few very thin branches from the top of the tree that just touched our car. We have been advised that there is a music festival being held at Gregory Downs this weekend and that it would be crowded, as such we decided to stop about 30km out of town and arrive on the Monday. Our drive took us through the Burke & Wills crossing where we topped up with fuel and had a light lunch, busy little place. On our way again an easy drive to our destination Feiry Creek where there is meant to be a camping area, we couldn’t find it but whilst trying to find the entrance we noticed a nice shady tree with easy access off the road and this became our over night stop, Dish set up and I was able to watch the footy, good win to the Dees.
Monday 20th August.
After a quiet night we were on our way by 9am arriving to Gregory Downs by 9.30am, by this time there was a mass exodus and by the time we reached the river there were plenty of spots to camp, we chose a site on the river bank with our view looking down the river with good shade and away from the main camping area. Our new neighbours two ladies who have been coming to this area for many years, Sally invited us to join them for sundowners and we accepted the invitation. Sally feeds the Osprey at 4.30pm every night and this is quite a sight to see, she throws small pieces of meat high into the air where the Osprey’s swoop and catch the food, there would be 40 or more Osprey’ s competing for the feed. Battery trouble our battery had a very low charge even after have the generator running most of the day, our neighbours were very helpful, Dean an electrical engineer and Sally offering to assist. After making numerous checks I finally found that the van charger had been unplugged it must have happened when removing our chairs from under the bed. Thank Goodness getting a new battery here would have proved difficult.
Tuesday 21st August.
A relaxing day with the generator going getting the battery charged up also again some minor maintenance. Coffee at the general store which is a shipping container converted into a shop. A walk and a chat with neighbour’s some reading and relaxing.
