We were the last van to leave Yamba the rain had eased but still no sign of it abating so on our way to Townsville our next stop another free camp site near Bowen and what a great stop it turned out to be. We parked the van overlooking a small dam among eucalypt trees many varieties of birds nesting in them, some beautifully coloured parrots all chattering to each other I guess they too were pleased that the rain was finally easing. This stopover is on the Glen Erin farm station and not far off the Bruce highway.
July 18th.
We were on our way by 9am hoping to stay at the Oasis caravan park where Sandy and Rosemary staying when contacting the park they said they were fully booked. We tried other caravan parks and they too were fully booked. On arrival to Townsville we decided to try calling in to the Oasis Caravan park asking for an unpowered site, the owners could not have been more helpful they found a site for us between two cabins, loaned us a long power lead and hose as the services were quite a distance away. It was a great site large and quiet. We caught up with The MacPhersons had a few drinkies then dinner and a good night’s sleep.
July 19th.
At last the rain had stopped and we woke to blue skies and a lovely warm day, after some shopping replenishing supplies we met up with the MacPhersons and visited the Townsville Yacht Club where we had lunch. Later Sandy and I went to the maritime museum and although we had been there before still found it interesting, they have some marvellous replica models of sailing ships and navy vessels some very detailed workmanship requiring great patience. Back to the park much chatting over sundowners. Tomorrow the MacPhersons head to Paranella Park and we head to Kurimine Beach catching up with Gary and Tanya Wood.
