The Opti Kids had a ball and showed great improvement over the regatta. Some notable results. In Green Fleet Leigh Harvie and Jaime Beck first and second boys, Lucy Laverty 3rd Girl in Intermediate. Our coach Mel reports that all kids had a ball and loved the comradery of competing in a State Championships.
At Royal Geelong, Graeme Taylor (aka “GT”) added yet another title to his impressive list of sailing achievements with an emphatic victory in the Sate Etchell Championships.
On the home front MYC hosted the 420 State Championships a warm up to hosting the Nationals next summer. Although the fleet was down on expectations the racing was keen over a spread of conditions from a drifter on Saturday to huge seas on Sunday.
Congratulations to James Jackson and his crew Lachie Caldwell, they sailed an exceptional regatta and came away with a commanding series win. Lily and Matilda Richardson completed a good series for Team MYC coming third.
The success of the weekend was further proof that our club is very good at running regattas. This Rear Commodore and Club Captain Bill Bennett spent the weekend on Wally as the start line pin boat. As silly as it sounds we had a great time marvelling at the skills of these young sailors in all conditions. These kids CAN sail!!!! Maybe some of us older members should be getting lessons from them?!
As usual nothing happens without the input of our fantastic team of volunteers, on the land and on the water. Well done to all.
