Friday Fun Nights – ‘intro to green fleet’   4.30pm - 6.30pm
COST: Parents of kids sailing or finished Tackers 3  can buy a package of 6 Friday nights for $120 (if own boat.)  
An additional $30 if require the use of a Club Opti,

6 sessions  are flexible and can be used through out the entire season.
2 instructors are rostered on each night

TARGETING:  Those  that would like to start green fleet racing on Sundays.

WHEN: Fridays until daylight savings ends. It will never cancel – if too windy, do on shore sessions, or instructors take kids out in Feva’s

Mornington Yacht Club  is having a float in the Mornington Main Street Parade and we need members of all ages to help create and celebrate our 71st Birthday on the Mornington Yacht Club Float. If you would like to assist from 4pm - 7pm call Rod on 0477522750 or email [email protected]

A stellar line-up is planned for the main stage in Mornington Park featuring headline act Ross Wilson.   Entertainment will continue into the evening culminating with a spectacular fireworks display at sundown. MYC will have Twilight Racing on the night also.

SYC might have abandoned the day for all fleets but 7 brave boats from Div 1 and 2 went out in 20-30 knot South Westerly to compete in the Rear Commodores Trophy.

Clearing skies and a shifty 12 to 15 knots concluded the 2017 Australian Youth Championships held at the Adelaide Sailing Club, South Australia. Following four days of intense racing the five youth classes completed all ten races and the top three podium places were awarded.
In addition to crowning the 2017 Australian Youth Champions, a selection of twelve athletes were announced as the newest members of the Australian Sailing Youth Team; these athletes will represent Australia in the 2017 World Sailing Youth Championships. The final two team athletes in the Nacra 15 class will be selected at a separate event in April this year.

420
Having completed two races yesterday the 420 fleet finished their final two races in good time. Otto Henry (NSW) and Rome Featherstone (WA) took two bullets today to continue their winning streak and finished in first place for the boys 420 division. Hugo Llewellyn and Nick Joel (SSCBC Vic) were 2nd.
Laura Harding and Eleanor Grimshaw (VIC) retained their week- long lead and took the win in the girls 420 division. A great 2nd were Sophie Jackson and Ella Sharman from MYC.

Sophie and Ella wrote: "Sitting 9th overall and 2nd girls, the Youth Nationals are now finished. And thats another tour complete....!!! As we drive away from Adelaide, we're proud of how we sailed, showing ourselves at the front of the fleet time and time again, just not always finishing there. We had a range of tricky conditions, and certainly didnt get the huge seabreezes we were expecting! After 2 months of no sailing and 1 month of restricted sailing with Ella's back injury, it wasnt an ideal lead up and was always going to be a tough gig to achieve our goals... So while we are disappointed with the final results, we know once again we take away a huge new bag of skills and knowledge and send a huge congratulations and good luck to Ella and Laura going to the 2017 Youth Worlds. A big thankyou goes out to coach Johnny Rogers, and also to Jacko for his tips and guidance, The Sports Injury Clinic have made sure we brought our fittest bodies and got Ellas back though! And as always to Hart Marine. As we look foward to our next challenges, we'll be sure to update soon!" Soph & Elz

Having Rhett Gowans win the Laser Radial Australian Championships and BrodyRiley 3rd,  the next week at the Youth Champs we had Alex Ferguson our only MYC Laser representative in the 4.7 class. Congratulations Alex who came 41st but had some really good races in the regatta.

A massive 40 boats have returned to Mornington sailing on a Thursday night.
Maybe all have returned as it was sunny, over 20 degrees and less than 20 knots.
Another reason was parents of Juniors were hanging out for some big boat sailing .
The competition was tight as the series comes to an end. It was great to see Lauren Wild from Harcourts Mornington out their participating.
Oenone was leading when I wrote this but had to leave to attend a "man overboard "  actually a solo man overboard on Belle. Stuart Donaldson whilst untangling a jib sheet went overboard and so  fortunateley was able to get on board but unfortunateley without his mobile phone.

It appears our honesty system with the Ice is being abused and we have members thinking they can take ice without paying or paying the appropriate amount. 
Figures for ice is at its lowest in 3 years and members must respect this service the club provides.
A bag is $4.50 and money is to be placed in the plastic tub located in the Freezer itself.

Congratulations to MYC member Noel Heyes who recently received the Lions Club Mornington Citizen of the Year award!

He received this for his outstanding and exemplary service to the citizens of Mornington and to the broader Mornington Peninsula and Victorian communities, in helping to establish and to then continue to coordinate and participate in the MYC Sailability project.
