Peninsula Grammar Year 8 Day at MYC – Event Wrap
Mornington Yacht Club was alive with energy on Friday as we welcomed 145 Year 8 students from Peninsula Grammar for their Pastoral Care Day by the bay. With six rotating activity stations spread across the marina, beach and clubhouse, the day highlighted exactly what MYC does best — creating safe, exciting and memorable entry points into sailing and water-based activities for young people.
Students moved through a full schedule including Powerboat Adventures, a guided Discover Sailing experience aboard the Sydney 38, Stand Up Paddleboarding, and a variety of creative and physical beach activities designed to build teamwork, confidence, and connection. Conditions were perfect, spirits were high, and the feedback from teachers and students has been overwhelmingly positive.

Tower team (Bryan Fraser and Ross Kilborn) – thank you for keeping everything running safely and smoothly on the water and on the radio. Your calm oversight makes such a difference to the whole day.
Food crew (Bev Donnellan, Jo Mckenzie, Michele Whitbourne) – you kept everyone fuelled and happy (no small task with that many hungry students and helpers!). Your time in the kitchen and behind the scenes is truly appreciated.
First aid (Helen and Eric Smalley) – thank you for quietly being there in the background, ready for anything. Knowing you were on hand gave everyone extra peace of mind.
Life jacket team (Nes Srijumnong and Jo Mckenzie) – wrangling kids and PFDs isn’t easy, but you made the gear-up process efficient, safe and welcoming for the students and teachers.
Photographers (Andrew Weber, and thank you to Al Dillon for organising a videographer and drone expert) – thank you for capturing the spirit of the day so beautifully.
Rhib riders (Ben Jones, Sophie Mckenzie, Angus Higgins, Lachie Weber) – your professionalism, patience and good humour made the on-water activities smooth and safe from start to finish.
Stand Up Paddleboard support (Gus McIntyre) – thank you for leading the SUP station with calm confidence and keeping the students engaged and safe on the water.
Coordination and administration (Immi Weber) – thank you for your overall support behind the scenes; your coordination and excellent information sheets made a significant difference to the smooth operation of the day.
Sydney 38 donors and drivers
(Laurie and Will White, Will Mckenzie, Sophie Jackson) – thank you for generously providing your vessels and guiding the Discover Sailing sessions. The students had an incredible experience thanks to your support on the water.
Chris and James Jackson, not only did you donate your vessel but you helped in structuring and flow of the day. Your help in shaping the rotation timing and overall setup ensured everything ran smoothly and efficiently.
Days like this reflect so well on our club and that’s entirely thanks to your time, energy and willingness to help.
