Click here for flyer With summer around the corner and you are thinking it may be good to take your best friend out sailing. You have a life jacket why not one for your best doggie friend?
I know when I had been out sailing with my dog we had a life jacket on her as she was curious to look over the side to see what she could see. Just like us humans our best friend needs a life jacket too. Even if your dog is the best swimmer who loves the water and all that moves beneath your boat, you need to keep your dog safe by wearing a life jacket. As your dog is the center of your life you need to keep him or her safe. You would hate to see your dog fall overboard and it could be a while before you can sail back to pick them up, so be a responsible pet owner by using a life jacket so you can enjoy your sailing with your family and your best friend. June Trent, President, Community Dog Club Mount Martha Ships Log provided by Warren Neate Picture one of those perfect sunny Thursday night twilight sails with the forecast for light bay breezes with a chance of french wine and cheeses ,the kind of night ,that you invite friends on board ,that have very little or no sailing experience. Encouraging them that this will be the perfect afternoon to stretch those sea legs The good yacht Light Foot hoists her sails and heads out of Mornington harbor with a full main and head sail timing the the start with seconds to spare hoping for a chance of winning a bottle of wine to impress the guests ,a quick head count we have 4 on board and Milly aka hairy mc kearry who is entertaining all on board by running around the decks barking at the occasional passing sea gull paws up on the cabin top her head in the sea breeze scanning the horizon ,the crew are relaxed the sails are trimmed a couple of cold froffys are ordered up on deck , over hearing members of the crew chatting away ...arr this is the life ,we round A buoy, and ease the sails reaching up to B buoy wind in our hair Milly is now the forward hand settling in on the bow ,rounding B buoy running down to C buoy head sail polled out ,every body is having a great time ,Milly the forward deck dog starts barking excitement spreads through the crew as she has spotted Dolphins there are about 4 of them they swim up to the bow and do what dolphins do best start showing of ...,splashing and jumping out of the water thrilling the crew they seem fascinated with this little black dog running up and down the decks barking as they swim past ,Milly decides hey there having way to much fun and jumps in the water swimming along side the Dolphins thinking that she could catch one .Then she disappears under the water ,thinking that she has drowned, I gave the helm to one of the crew and jump in the water ,a little wet furry head pops up ,at this point in time looking up the good yacht light foot is sailing of in to the distance with a bewildered look on the crews members face that received the helm as I jumped over board hearing him say I dont now how to sail were do I turn the motor on as the yacht sails of in to the distance. And what does a frightened dog do when you swim over and reach it ?,it thinks your an island and scampers up to the highest point.. your head and trys to sit on it . Funny thoughts role through your mind when your in the middle of the bay with a dog on your head and your yacht sails away with a crew that has no idea of how to turn the boat around .But this tale ends on a good note the crew works out after a while how to drop the sails ...and start the motor ,the skipper and Milly rescued safely ,and now she has a red life jacket with a handle sewn in bit like a hand bag with a dog in it . a dogs day on the water, a true wagging tail . What a good weekend at Sail Country at Albury Wodonga YC with many highlights, not just social, family camping ones. So good to see Lake Hume full and the spillway in action. MYC was represented by about 55 members, there seemed to be MYC hoodies everywhere. Sail Country incorporates the Victorian Dinghy Champs with 170 boats competing.
Great MYC results over multiple fleets. Click here for results Rhett Gowans first in Laser Radial. Denver James was 5th in Laser 4.7 with one heat win. Jacko was seen in his 1980's disco pink trapeze harness filling in for injured Ella and helping Sophie to 3rd in the 420s. Lachie came out with a second with very tight final scores between the top three in the Open Optis. Missed first by a few centimetres. Jack Eik was 5th and MYC had 7 in top dozen. In the Intermediate Optis we can claim 1,2,3 with Millie Evenden, McKenzie Heyes and Jay James taking the honours. Thomas Hutchison was in the mix too before a classic nosedive in the last race pushed him down to 5th. The photos attached are the Intermediates waiting for wind trying to walk the bow and climb their masts! Didn't seem too fussed about the temperature of melted snow. They didn't seem to linger in the water though. Then the greens just had fun. Seemed like half were MYC which is a great look for the future. Chris Coombs was seen skimming the lake in an Open Bic. Lots of MYC kids with their own firsts, whether it be first regatta, first time away, first in a 420 etc. Our 420 fleet is building with 5 MYC boats in a fleet of 14. And as well, the new RIB was delivered from Sydney Click here for the Pic Gallery. Photos thank from Ben and Andrew. (more to come) Andrew Weber and Jacko Dear Sheryl, Chris and Rod, Click here for a brief speech I made in the Assembly last night calling on the Minister for Ports to ensure the pier issue is resolved promptly. The Minister is expected to respond within one month, but I would be surprised if we get anything more than an open ended commitment – at best! I will let you know when a response is received.
