Notice is hereby given that an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Mornington Yacht Club (“Club”) will be held at the Clubhouse, Schnapper Point Drive, on Wednesday 23 November 2016 at  7pm.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider, and if thought fit, pass with or without amendment the following as a special resolution:  
“That for the purposes of section 136 of the Corporations Act and all other purposes the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Mornington Yacht Club are repealed and in lieu thereof the constitution attached to this notice is adopted.”

BACKGROUND TO PROPOSED RESOLUTION
Over the past 18 months the Governance Sub Committee and General Committee of the Club has undertaken a thorough review of its constitution and considered whether the constitution of the Club meets the needs of a modern sporting and community organisation. Following this review, the recommendation of the General Committee is to replace the existing constitution (known as the Memorandum and Articles of Association) with a new constitution. A copy of the proposed new constitution is attached for your consideration.
The existing constitution of the Club has stood relatively unchanged since 1964.  Whilst the core objects of the Club, such as the promotion and encouragement of sailing and yacht racing and the provision of proper facilities for our members, have remained unchanged over time, some of the clauses in the old constitution have become outdated and needed refinement. The new proposed constitution reflects the Club’s legal advice as to best practice in member based organisations in relation to corporate governance, members’ rights and board accountability.
Attached to this Notice is a Proxy Form for members who wish to appoint a proxy to the meeting and a Frequently Asked Questions and Answers Sheet which may be of some assistance to members in relation to the proposed resolution.
Attached to this Notice is a copy of the proposed new constitution of the Club and copy of the Club’s existing Memorandum and Articles of Association.

Sailing World Cup - Melbourne
Only 3 weeks until Sailing World Cup (SWC) Melbourne at St Kilda. 
With almost 100 sailors competing in the Optimist Fleet this is going to be a fantastic warm up to the Opti Nationals in January.  We have the best Optimist sailors from around Australia and a number of International competitors including sailors from China as part of the VIODA/Qingdao Sailor Exchange program. 
This year SWC is hosting an Intermediate fleet with a wind limit of 20 knots. If you are an Intermediate sailor and would like to get some good start line practice before the Nationals make sure you enter ASAP.

With Early Bird entry closing in shortly we have entries growing quickly for the biggest Optimist Regatta in Australia for the year.   
This is the premier event of the year where all our Optimist sailors from around Australia come together to enjoy their love of sailing and catch up with their interstate friends. At this event our National Teams will be selected that will go on to campaign for the Australian Optimist Sailing Team & Development Squad.

With a late entry fee of $50 starting on the 25th November 2016, it is a great time to enter and avoid the price increase.  Largs Bay Sailing Club are well underway with preparations for our arrival and early entry assist greatly with planning.

The Nationals will be running three fleets for our sailors.  Green, Intermediate and Open.  If you need help with selecting your fleet, check our "Which Fleet?" section of the OptiAUS website to assist.

It was tricky racing on Saturday with winds fluctiating and chaging directions but 3 races were held to make a series as Sunday was a blow out.

RPAYC Yacht Barely Legal was 1st on SMS and PHS . Crew included local champion Guy Bancroft.
​MYC member Dave Eickmeyer on Splash with crew GT and Stuart Schafer were 1st Victorian SMS
and
MYC member Paul Heyes and crew on Foam Fast were 1st Victorians PHS.

Saturdays weather turned out to be half reasonable for the first Kids on Keelboats Race. Thanks to Cam McKenzie for the inspiration and Steve Bardsley for the advertising. As Bill Bennett said, Saturday sailors don’t know Sunday, and Sunday don’t know Saturday. They sure do now!

Thanks to all the big boats for hosting the kids. Everyone looked like they had fun, a great get together. A special mention to Phoenix who only had kids steer. Might mention an Optimist sailor won the start, well done Jazzy. Next time we might have to award the first boat with a junior helm.  Many adults were impressed at the level of our MYC kid’s sailing. What a great long weekend in company with beautiful classic Yachts, friends and guests from New Zealand lots of very interesting people a very special dog Foxy and lot of sailing in Williamstown.
 
It all started Thursday at noon when Helen, her dog Foxy, Iain from New Zealand and Iain’s Cousin Jane Williamson (maiden name) who grew up with sailing in Mornington met in front of Mornington Yacht Club and took off in the old beautiful classic boat Oenone. It was a nice windy day with lot of sunshine and easy sailing. And as usual Helen had her picnic basket with the most delicious rolls with prawns and avocado and for though who wanted it there was also coriander and of course we had to have a glass of cold white wine with the rolls too. It only took us about 4 hours to sail to Williamstown. Iain is a friend of Helen she met through the classic sailing. The regatta is on every year but every 2nd year the regatta is held in New Zealand (Auckland).
 
I was lucky enough to have the chance to sleep at Helens place in Melbourne and even that we were sleepy after the day on the water she insisted that I should see a bit of the night life in Melbourne and she took me to a fancy bar “The botanical” and after that we went to a Japanese restaurant. The next day we had a long walk in the botanic garden with Foxy and the garden was so beautiful I will say it must have been at its best.  I never knew that Melbourne was so beautiful. After leaving Foxy at home we went to a sail maker Doyle in Melbourne to pick up new sails for Oenone. There was a main sail, a topsail, a jib and a staysail. All these words for sails, there is a lot to learn. Colin at Doyle explained a lot and gave us a few tips and showed us how he thought the sails should be folded including how a woolen tread can make life easier when it is tired around the Jib.
 
After picking up the sails we spend the rest of Friday with taken the old sails of the pretty girl and got the new one on her. It was a much bigger job than I thought it would be but the new sails looks great and I learned a lot again. And then it was time to meet all the sailors at the Cup Regatta Cocktail Function.
 
Saturday it was time for racing and the sail maker Colin was on the boat to be sure that the sails looked correct and he adjusted a few things and off we took together with Helens daughter Linke and a New Zealander Penelope. After sailing we joint the New Zealand group of people at an Italian restaurant in Williamstown and had a great evening and then back to Melbourne and have a much needed sleep.
 
Sunday morning Peter Costolloe did send a “Gale warning. RYCV advice no racing today” so we went to a café had a coffee with Linke and her boyfriend and then we went back to Mornington and I must admit that it was a warm and nice day but I was so sleepy that I took a good granny nab at the couch.
 
Monday morning I went to Helens home in Mornington at 7am and we took off for the last day of racing in Williamstown. There was a lot of wind and it was great to sail again. Helen, Linke, Richard McCrae and I had the joy to sail together and I had another great day. After the sailing we all had lunch together and it was time for Trophy presentation. Helen got the most beautiful trophy of all for the best presented boat and she got a Boat Hook from The Wooden Boat Shop in Sorrento in bronze head with teak handle. I can’t express how beautiful it is.
 
 It was great days, great people, great sailing and not to forget GREAT FUN.

A great memory form April 2016

We, as a club, pride ourselves to engage and encourage more Juniors and Youth to the sport of sailing. Mornington is an ideal base for so many more young people to discover sailing.
 
Our club has a strategy to promote sailing to the Youth through families and schools. Ideally the club would like sailing and boating activities be included as part of their outdoor & leadership curriculum and/or school sport. 
 
MYC is asking for your support to obtain 6 Pacers which will allow MYC to become a School Team Sailing Centre. Team Sailing is one of the fastest growing aspects of sailing in Australia and Pacers are the Australian Recognised and Endorsed Team Racing Dinghy.
 
Already MYC has been nominated by Australian Sailing as the preferred venue for the Australian and NZ Interdominion to be held in September 2017.  For this to happen   this Fundraising project has been established  to provide the equipment needed to achieve this goal.
 
WE DO NEED YOUR SUPPORT!   What we know:

• Sailing as a School Sport has experienced massive growth in the past 5 years.
• Schools will come  to MYC if we have Pacers
• MYC is recognised as an ideal venue for National and International Team Racing events
• There is now a dedicated State APS, AGS, VGS, Catholic and Public School Perpetual Trophies.
• Teams racing is for all ages and MYC will host Inter and intra club events with members
• The Boats will be used also by our Training School for the next level of training after Tackers and Adult Dinghy Training courses.

 
As lovers of the sport and recreation of Sailing we do need your support to raise the required funds in 2016 in readiness for 2017 School season.  I.e. If every member contributed a minimum donation of $100 MYC would receive $75,000.
