Last weekend we hosted 85 yachts for our annual Schnapper Point Regatta. This year that incorporated the Quantum Sails Finn States, and Ronstan Victorian ILCA (Laser) U21 regatta. Saturday was so bad, no keelboats ventured to Queenscliff. We waited until lunch to also give up on the day. We had Glen Ashby talk to everyone at Saturday briefing about his career path, and amazing 17 World Championships, 4 American Cup campaigns, and we didn’t get time to talk about an Olympic medal in there too. An early start Sunday, and in some what borderline conditions, and careful management, we got 4 races in for each fleet.
Finns – Jack Eickmeyer 3rd overall, and 1st under 29
ILCA 6 – Jack Vermeer, Maddy English and Digby Taylor were 2nd, equal 3rd and 6th overall; 1st, 2nd and 3rd Under 21, with Maddy also first female
ILCA 4 – Rose Carlson 3rd and first female
Open Opti – Acklin Stent 2nd
Intermediate Opti – James Edwards 1st, Kate Edwards 3rd and 1st female
Greenies – Nathan Mao 1st, Sadie Donnellan 2nd
Ben Jones was the lead as Chair of the Organising Committee and Bravo RO, Chris Jackson PRO on water and Andrew Weber the “front of house” on land.

Volunteers – Team MYC again were a hard working, happy lot. It’s great to have new volunteers every year, especially those that did not have family members sailing. Thank you to everyone in all roles, there are too many to name.
It is so good seeing the kids still had a smile afterwards. We are occasionally asked why we do it? The weekend was a great example of fostering independence, resilience and adventure in kids. They met the challenge that the weather presented, they had the inspiration of Glen Ashby, and the example of the older Finn and Laser sailors to look up to. The aim is to give them to a life-long love and participation in sailing too. Well done kids.
