Debbie wrote "The book is designed to introduce kids to sailing and, therefore, uses sailing terms. There will be a glossary of the terms in the front so non-sailing parents could explain it to kids as the story goes. It is based on the sailor’s legend that it is unlucky to rename a boat. A boat washes up on the shore without a name and the lead character has to help it find its name. It is written in rhyme to replicate the waves of the ocean – not sure if this comes through – but ok, I just love a rhyme. It is set in Mornington and across Port Phillip Bay. The Mornington Yacht Club stingray makes a feature and needs a name as does the lead character who is a girl."
Deborah has asked the yacht club junior members that love to draw to enter a drawing competition to design the characters of the girl Zubbadoo, the boat with no name and the Sting Ray. We ask that you use your imagination as to what the characters might look like Draw just one or all of the three characters. Entries close at the end of the school holidays 31 Jan 2016 and are to be received either by email to sarah@morningtonyc.net.au or delivered to the MYC office. see poster below
The winning entries will each win a $50 Sport Phillip Marine Voucher and the winning drawings will be used as the inspiration for the real illustrations of the characters in the book.
The aim is to publish the book early next year and we would like an indication as to how many to publish and ask that you pre-order based on indicative cost of $20 per book. Please send your pre order requirements to email: sarah@morningtonyc.net.au.
It will be a wonderful childrens book that you will keep you close to home roots and to be read from generation to generation.
