We are pleased John is back on board at the club this weekend.
The 2016 Club Marine Victorian Junior and Youth Championships is arguably the highlight of the 2015/ 2016 off the beach (OTB) calendar for our sailors. Not only is it the grand finale of the 2015/2016 OTB Marine Victorian Sailing Cup but we will see a number of sailors transitioning from one class to another.
This year the 2016 Club Marine Victorian Junior and Youth Championships is again being held at Mornington Yacht Club and comprises of a Coaching Clinic from the 5 – 7th April and a regatta from the 9 – 10th April 2016. This event consecutively receives accolades for its coaching program; and this year’s line-up vaunts Olympians, World Champions and vetted international coaches including all-star names like Sarah Ogilvie, Krystal Weir, Rob Brewer and Tony Bull just to name a few. In the coming weeks Yachting Victoria will be running a “Meet the Coaches” campaign through their website and Facebook Page. Tony Bull, nominee for the 2015 Yachting Australia and Victorian Sports coaching awards, has been coaching the International Cadets at this regatta since it became a pathway class two years ago. The two time World Champion coach explains the importance of attending this regatta: "This regatta lays down the foundations for the 2016/17 season. Skippers and crew get to build a relationship and develop the skills necessary to compete on a national and international circuit. It’s rare to find a regatta that promotes coaching while racing. "Being able to coach while in the midst of a race is a very powerful tool. We always encourage to train as you race and race as you train so being able to coach while actually racing really enforces this mindset." This regatta will also announce the winner(s) of the Yachting Victoria’s ‘Happy Snaps’ competition and the host club for 2017/18. Clubs have the chance to win a $1000 Gill voucher by submitting a photo with 6 or more junior and/or youth sailors enjoying the sailing life. Photos need to be sent to communications@yachtingvictoria.com.au by the 1st of March with the winner announced on the 10th of April at this regatta. The Notice of Race, Schedule and Online Entry for the 2016 Club Marine Victorian Junior and Youth Championships will be available in the next week via the Yachting Victoria website www.yachtingvictoria.com.au and the Yachting Victoria's Facebook Page. As many of you are aware the Historical Committee with the assistance of David Campbell have been filming a new 70th Birthday Documentary and also preparing the exhibition for the Back to Mornington YC Weekend. As part of the celebrations the aim was for one of Founding members John Berry now living in Queensland.
Unfortunately John could not attend but fortunately sent this video and some wonderful letters instead. John wrote " ...My 15 year old grand daughter Meagan did all the hard stuff. All I did was stand and deliver. I just wish my voice was a bit clearer. It used to be pretty good some years ago. Then I wish I had a bit more hair. I lost it all, quite suddenly about 5 years ago. I'm too old to worry about those silly things now. Vanity of vanities, the preacher said. All is vanity". Play the video to your hearts content and then some. Have a laugh! It wont bother me in the slightest. All I am interested in is making a worthwhile contribution to the 70th Birthday celebrations. All celebrations are worth while , they lift the spirit , inspire ideas and do a lot of good..." Do you have a tender in the yard?, if so it needs to be
Due to demand and excessive numbers and size of tenders the committee is reviewing the whole issue and welcome any input via the office. Any one that feels strongly about wanting a private rib as a tender rather than a fleet of say 6 club tenders, should speak up. The committee would welcome those that feel strongly to form a committee and look at building a rake on the traverse pit to house them. Any tenders unlabelled and unpaid for will be moved to storage at the end of February. |
